Plot Factory

Plot Factory is an online story planning platform with AI assistance for building characters, plots and world bibles before drafting.

Overview

Plot Factory helps fiction writers organize the architecture of a story. Its structured worksheets cover character profiles, story beats, locations, timelines and items, all cross-linked so a change ripples through the project. AI features brainstorm plot complications, generate character backstories and critique pacing based on your beat sheet. Multiple story structures — three-act, hero’s journey, custom — guide planning, and a distraction-free drafting mode takes over when it is time to write. Projects can be exported to common writing formats.

Who Is It For

It is built for novelists, screenwriters and world-builders who want rigorous planning tools rather than a blank page.

How It Works

Build your story bible first: character profiles, locations, timeline events and items, all cross-linked so references stay consistent. Plan beats using a chosen structure — three-act, hero’s journey or custom — with AI brainstorming complications and backstories on demand. When planning feels complete, switch to drafting mode with word goals and export to your preferred format.

In Practice

Plotters thrive here; pantsers can use it lightly as a story bible without committing to full outlines. Keep character sheets updated as drafts reveal new traits — the cross-links make continuity checks easy later. Serial writers find the timeline view especially valuable for keeping concurrent plotlines coherent across long projects.

FAQ

Is Plot Factory free to use?

Yes, a free plan supports small projects. Unlimited projects and AI features require a paid subscription.

Does Plot Factory offer an API?

Plot Factory is a writer-focused product; integrations center on export formats rather than a public API.

How does Plot Factory compare to alternatives?

Its depth of story-structuring worksheets separates it from general writing apps that treat fiction as just more text.

Can I export my work from Plot Factory?

Yes, drafts export to DOCX, PDF and Markdown for editing elsewhere or submission. Character and world sheets can be exported too, so your story bible survives even if you later move to a different writing environment.
